ROSS PHILLIPS:

After visiting the 'Decode: Digital Design Sensations' exhibition at the V&A museum I discovered an amazing multimedia designer, Ross Phillips. He creates really interesting interactive installations that rely on visitor participation. The one I saw at the V&A was the Videogrid, which consists of 25 squares each on a one-second video loop. Visitors can create moving portraits or miniature narratives, activating the recording using the touch screen. The grid starts empty and the beginning of the installation and becomes a constantly changing collaborative artwork.

Another interesting example is the Head to Toe installation. Four pods around London take short videos of the heads, bodies or legs of the people standing in front. Participants can use the arrows to flick through different combinations. The pods are situated at the Design Museum, Selfridges, Covent Garden or Ideas Store.

We love the idea of capturing an element of this innovative digital interaction within our exhibition.

Richard Rogers + Architects exhibition

Really like the look of this exhibiton that has just finished in Madrid. It showcases the achievements of Richard Rogers, the remarkable British architect who designed the Pompidou Centre and the Millenium Dome. The exhibiton reminded me of how we could potentially display the stage 1 and 2 reports to make them a bit more visually stimulating, creating boards of blown up pages and graphic from the report and hang them above head height. Also love the large-scale lettering and bright, fresh colour palette against white.

THE BIG BOOK

Obvioulsy the whole point of this exhibition is to promote the individuals on the course and their work. So how do we bring 110 marketing reports to life?

Each member of the course will be asked for a description of their project, graphics, key extracts, past work they are proud of, any other imegery or quotes they find inspiring and any self branding they have designed. This will then be collated by us and turned into the Big Book. Each student will have their own double page spread and visitors to the exhibition will be able to take these books away. To ensure the book is not a mish mash of clashing designs each page will have a coherant generic design. Everyone on the course will be given the opportunity to design a front cover after being provided with a colour palette. The pages of the book will be french folded and pull out enabling a poster to be created of The Big Idea graphics.

As well as the Big Book, Big Boards will be produced detailing the individual course members, their work, inspirations and aspirations.

Hopefully these two ideas with the videos will give students plenty of chances to get themselves noticed by the Big Boys.

The Big Balloon Release

The Big Balloon release would take part a few weeks before the exhibition as a way of promoting and raising awareness of the show. Keep it simple, 110 balloons representing the 110 people on the course with invites to the show attatched. On the back of the invite will be a message asking the finder of the balloon to send a picture of themself and where they are. These pictures will then be displayed as part of the exhibition.

We're getting excited.

VIRTUAL VISITORS:

An idea we had was to have a virtual visitors book projected onto a big screen, potentially in 315. We thought it work to have it as a Twitter page, so visitors type their thoughts and comments about the exhibition and they appear on the big screen as a Twitter feed. This way it engages the visitors and utilizes new social media and all that.

MULTI-MEDIA:

Videos will form an integral part of The Big Idea; we want to use them to showcase the knowledge and personalities within FMC. Here are some of our ideas for videos so far:
- The Big Issue: montage of FMC students responding to questions regarding the future of marketing e.g. what macro trends will be facing the consumer market in 5 years? how will the shopping experience have changed? That sorta thing.
- The Big Dream: students holding up placards with a quote about themselves or their aspirations written on it.
- The Big Picture: montage of photographs from our fundraising events, trips and examples of students work.
-The Big Bang: video of water-balloons being thrown at FMC students faces??

Let us know what you think.

THE BIG IDEA:

The long-awaited final concept has arrived. Due to overwhelming popular demand for the FMC Ideas concept, both from the year group and the tutors, we chose to develop it, merging with our favourite aspects of the other two concepts to create, you guessed it...The Big Idea. We thought about what it is that is so god damn brilliant about our course, and really it all boils down to generating ideas; thinking outside the box; looking ahead to the future and and coming up with ingenious innovations. So there is it, the inspiration for The Big Idea, it's really quite simple. Without divulging too much information about our exciting plans, the key visual theme centres around balloons. Not only do balloons represent, almost like thought bubbles, the ideas that are generated within FMC, they are also really fun. Who in their right mind doesn't get excited at the sight of a huge bunch of balloons?? I know we do.
